Taken on a cold night in Nelson National Park in New Zealand. We had been hiking for a few days and this time, I had my home-made panoramic swivel head along. When I got up at 3:00 in the night to check on the light conditions, it was ideal for a night photo, so I set out on a little night hike. The wind was icy and whistled in my ears, I had to hold the tripod so it wouldn’t shake too much or tip over. It took 15 minutes to take the various photos for the final image and even though I had taken a blanket with me to wrap up in, I was frozen solid by the time I had everything I wanted. After an hour hike back, I was happy to get back to the hikers’ hut and crawl into my sleeping bag. Creating this photo was a challenge; I had to give it my all, and I got really lucky that everything worked out so well.
